
Congratulations to Father James Lang, retired diocesan priest who continues to play a prominient role in rural ministry across the Diocese of Youngstown, on 50 years in the priesthood!
A native of Randolph, Father Lang attended St. Joseph School in Suffield and graduated from Randolph High School. He attended Bohecker’s Business College in Ravenna and the Army Medical Service School, serving two years on active duty. After his 1967 discharge, he studied at St. Gregory and Mt. St. Mary of the West seminaries in Cincinnati.
Father Lang was ordained on June 7, 1975, by Bishop Malone at St. Columba Cathedral. He was named associate pastor at St. Joseph (now Divine Mercy Parish) in Massillon (1975 to 1978), Immaculate Conception Parish in Ravenna (1978 to 1982) and St. Luke (now St. Catherine of Siena) Parish in Boardman (1982 to 1988), before being named past or of St. Clement (now Holy Family Parish) in Navarre in 1988. He then served as associate pastor at St. Patrick Parish in Kent and St. Brendan (now St. Mary Magdalene Parish) in Youngstown, before being named to his first pastorate at St. James Parish in Waynesburg in 1990. Other pastorates included St. Michael (now St. Ambrose Parish) in Windham and St. George Parish in Lisbon. Special assignments include service as the scouting chaplain for Portage County, chaplain of the United States Army National Guard Commission, chaplains for various Knights of Columbus councils across the diocese and a member of the diocesan Board of Religious Education and Council for Catechesis.
