
Congratulations to Father Richard Brobst, retired diocesan priest, on 60 years in the priesthood! A native of Youngstown, Father Brobst attended St. Brendan School and Ursuline High School. Following graduation from Holy Cross College in Worcester, Massachusetts, he served three years in the Navy and then entered St. Philip Neri School (for delayed vocations) in Boston. He attended Mt. St. Mary of the West Seminary in Cincinnati and Xavier University in Cincinnati.
He was ordained August 14, 1965, by Bishop James Malone in St. Brendan (now St. Mary Magdalene) Parish in Youngstown. Following ordination, he was assigned as assistant pastor at St. Edward (now part of St. Columba Cathedral Parish) in Youngstown from 1966 to 1967, and became a faculty member at Cardinal Mooney High School from 1967 to 1969. He was named to the faculty of St. Thomas Aquinas High School in Lousville (1969 to 1971) and served as assistant pastor at St. Charles (now St. Catherine of Siena Parish) in Boardman from 1971 to 1981. Father Brobst was named pastor of St. Paul the Apostle Parish in New Middletown in 1981, where he served until becoming past of St. Joseph (now St. Mary & St. Joseph Parish) in Newton Falls, in 1987. He was named pastor of St. Brendan in 1989 as well as the senior priest active at St. Luke Parish (now St. Catherine of Siena Parish) in Boardman, where he served until his retirement in 2006.
Father Brobst’s special assignments over the years include service on the Mahoning County Ecumenical Commission, a member of the ministry to priests program, a member of diocesan priests’ council and service as the diocesan priests’ personnel director.
