Headshot of Monsignor Rhodes

Congratulations to Monsignor David Rhodes, retired diocesan priest and pastor emeritus at St. Christine (now St. Mary Magdalene Parish) in Youngstown, on 60 years in the priesthood!

Monsignor Rhodes was born in 1939 in Kent, to parents Frank and Alma (Wise) Rhodes. He attended Immaculate Conception School in Ravenna and later graduated from Ravenna High School in 1954. He went on to seminary studies at St. Gregory Seminary, the Anatheum of Ohio and Mt. St. Mary’s Seminary—all in Cincinnati—where he graduated in 1965. He was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop James Malone at St. Columba Cathedral on May 29, 1965.

His first assignment was as assistant pastor at St. Christine from 1965 to 1967, later followed by St. Mary (now Corpus Christi Parish) in Conneaut from 1967 to 1969. From there, he became assistant chancellor and vocations director for the Diocese of Youngstown, from 1969 to 1973, before becoming diocesan chancellor from 1973 to 1979. After serving as chancellor, he went on to two long pastorates—St. Joseph Parish in Canton from 1979 to 1990 and St. Christine in Youngstown from 1990 until his retirement in 2012. He was named a prelate of honor, receiving the title “Monsignor” on March 3, 1997.

His special assignments over the years have included service as the dean of Stark County West, a member of the diocesan council of priests, president of the Canton Association of Churches, diocesan presbyteral council and several other liturgical and ecumenical roles.

Send your congratulations to Monsignor Rhodes at: 43171 County Line Rd #204, Columbiana, Ohio 44408
