
A native of Louisiana, Sister Gay Rowzie is an educator who has taught special education, elementary school and doctoral students. She received her Bachelor of Science in elementary education and special education from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana, and her M.Ed and Ph.D. degrees from the University of South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina.
Having been previously married Sister Gay is a “sister mom.” She entered the Humility of Mary Community from the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Charleston, South Carolina in 1999 when her son and daughter were adults. She made her first profession of vows in 2002 and professed her perpetual vows in 2005. Sister Gay has ministered at the diocesan and parish levels in education and health care at Humility of Mary Health Partners in Youngstown, and as director of mission integration and director of religious education at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Streetsboro. She currently resides in Rock Hill, South Carolina, and works with residents at Her Place, a transitional home for women who are experiencing homelessness.
