Father Nicholas Mancini – 50 Years

Congratulations to Father Nicholas Mancini, retired diocesan priest, as he celebrates 50 years in the priesthood! A native of Youngstown and a 1965 graduate of Ursuline High School, he is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Mancini of Austintown.

He completed studies at the University of the State of New York, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education; Sacred Heart Seminary and Conway College in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, where he received is Master of Arts degree; St. Francis Seminary in Loretto, Pennsylvania, and Mt. St. Mary Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland, where he receid his Master of Divinity degree. He also completed studies in Sacred Liturgy and in Sacred Music at The Uniersita di Siena in Siena Italy.

He was ordained at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on May 3, 1975, by Bishop James Hogan.

Father Mancini was parochial vicar at St. Patrick Parish and St. Clement Parish in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and St. Mary Parish in Nanty Glo, Pennsylvania. He also served as a full time instructor of Religion and History at Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, and at Bishop Carroll High School in Ebensburgh, Pennsylvania and Prospect Academy in Frederick, Maryland. He served as pastor of Holy Cross Parish in Spangler, Pennsylvania, and Holy Spirit Parish in Beaverdale and Dunlo, Pennsylvania. During his time in the Altoona-Johnstown diocese, he also served on the Presbyteral Council and the Diocesan Board of Consultors, in addition to service as the director of pastoral care at Garvey Manor Nursing Care Center in Hollidaysburg, Pennsylvania, and chaplain at Bon Secours Holy Family Hospital and Altoona Hospital.

He returned to the Diocese of Youngstown in 2001, serving first at St. Paul Parish in North Canton, then as administrator at St. Joan of Arc (now Guardian Angels Parish) in Canton in 2004. He later served as administrator at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish in Geneva, pastor at SS. Cyril and Methodius and St. Stephen of Hungary in Youngstown (now both part of St. Columba Cathedral Parish) and was named spiritual director of the Curia of the Legion of Mary for the diocese in 2009. In 2011, he was transferred to Sacred Heart of Mary (now St. Isidore Parish) in Harrisburg, where he currently serves as pastor emeritus. He retired from active ministry in 2018.
