A snapshot of the positive, exceptional or interesting events happening around the diocese this month

6,575 STUDENTS

The diocese’s 25 Catholic schools—including six high schools—will welcome over 6,575 students this year. Approximately 615 teachers and 40 administrators have been hired to accommodate them.

200 NEW CHROMEBOOKS

St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School, under the guidance of new principal, Teresa Caserta, and assistant principal, Scott Giammarco,  has purchased 200 new Chromebooks and Promethean Boards to prepare for the school year.

4 SECURITY SYSTEM UPGRADES

Canton Central Catholic High School invested in new security cameras and monitors for the school year. John F. Kennedy Catholic School’s lower campus acquired new exterior doors, ballistic windows and interior remote access doors. St. Thomas Aquinas High School and Middle School also invested in security, including a new key fob system and additional cameras. Ursuline High School also equipped exit doors with sensors to enable monitoring of whoever enters and exits the building, added cameras throughout the school and replaced doors.

VARIOUS NEW CLASSES

Cardinal Mooney High School is offering new STEAM programs this year in engineering, biomedical science and studio art. John F. Kennedy High School’s new courses include astronomy and weather, “The Book Was Better,” graphic design and a social history of sports. Saint John School is offering the new “The Leader In Me” program again, based on 7 Habits of Leadership by Steven Covey. Ursuline High School, which reports its largest enrollment since 1996, expanded its Advanced Placement offerings with a total of 18 AP classes—including  a new AP pre-calculus class.
