Nearly 110 years ago, St. Matthias, now part of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish, was established on the southeast side of Youngstown.
In February, 1923, a small group of Catholics gathered in a storeroom on the corner of Market Street and Ravenwood Avenue for the first Mass of St. Dominic Parish in Youngstown, Mahoning County.
The Catholic community in Mantua, Portage County, dates to 1864, when Irish settlers grew in their desire to worship.
