
Sister Jeanne Thurin (Sister Basil) entered the Humility of Mary Community in September 1964 from the Basilica of St. John the Baptist in Canton. She professed her perpetual vows in July 1972. After entering the Humility of Mary Community, Sister Jeanne graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from St. John College in Cleveland. She pursued a graduate degree at La Salle University in Philadelphia, where she earned a Master of Arts in Religious Studies.
Sister Jeanne ministered in education for 33 years as a teacher in the Cleveland and Youngstown dioceses. She held roles at St. Sebastian School in Akron; St. Mary School in Painesville; St. Martin of Tours School in Maple Heights; St. Martha School in Akron; St. Mary of the Assumption School in Mentor; St. Jude School in Elyria; St. Patrick School in Kent; and St. Patrick School in Hubbard.
In addition, she served as a membership assistant for the Humility of Mary Ministry Center and as a program developer for the farm-based environmental education program at Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center in Villa Maria, Pennsylvania. Her volunteer experience includes the Purple Cat in Coitsville, Southside Fine Arts Academy in Youngstown and Hospice of the Valley in Villa Maria.
Currently, Sister Jeanne has been involved in Young Adult Ministry since 2022, where she mentors young adults on their spiritual journeys. She also serves in the Humility of Mary Ministry of Prayer.
