GIVING TUESDAY EVENTS

Giving Tuesday is later in the year than usual, on Tuesday, December 3, so mark your calendars! You can make a donation to Catholic Charities or participating parishes online on December 3, along with thousands of other Catholics across the country. In conjunction with Giving Tuesday, you can also support Catholic Charities by RSVP-ing for Breakfast with the Bishop at St. Michael Parish Family Life Center in Canfield on December 3 or Social Hour with the Bishop at the Gervasi Vineyard ballroom in Canton on December 5. Visit the Catholic Charities website to buy tickets to either or both events.

ARCHIVAL NEWS

On October 1, plans were revealed to transform the former Sts. Cyril & Methodius Church in Youngstown to an archival facility for the diocese. The City of Youngstown’s Design Review Committee gave its approval for the project, which includes the demolition of the existing rectory. However, at the time of publication, additional permits were needed before the project could move forward. Diocesan archives from 1943 through 1978 are currently being housed at Kent State University Libraries, and records collected after 1978 are housed in the basements of diocesan buildings. For more information and updates on this project, visit the diocesan website. Go to page 26 to read about the St. Vincent de Paul dining hall—formerly located in the Sts. Cyril & Methodius building—and its move to the Broadway Community Campus.

RETIREMENT FUND FOR RELIGIOUS

Across the United States, hundreds of religious communities lack financial resources sufficient to meet the retirement and health care needs of aging members. Go to page 18 to view an infographic detailing the need for the fund, as well as how the Retirement Fund for Religious (RFR) performed in the diocese in 2023. To give to the RFR, you can either respond to the second collection on the weekend of November 23 & 24, or visit the website to make a gift online.
