Sister Judith Ann Dohner entered the Humility of Mary Community from St. Sebastian Parish in Akron. She earned her LPN credentials at the St. Joseph Hospital of Practical Nursing, Lorain, and her BSN from Akron State University. She also earned her MSN from The Ohio State University in Columbus.
Sister Judy began her ministry in healthcare at Rose-Mary Home, Euclid as an LPN. She then served at St. Joseph Hospital, Lorain for 19 years, first as an LPN and then as an RN. Listening to God’s call to serve the poor has always directed Sister Judy to the next place she could be of service. In 2002, Sister Judy followed that call to Haiti, where she spent 16 years ministering in various capacities, including as Project Coordinator at Hope for Haiti in Petionville; Administrative Director of Hopital San Damien, NPFS, in Petionville; Hospital Consultant to Nos Petits Freres et Soeurs A.I.P.; as an RN at a clinic in Fondwa; and as Administrator and then Nurse Consultant at Hopital San Damien in Tabarre.
Sister Judy returned to the United States in 2018, and currently works with Haitian immigrants and refugees in Immokalee, Florida, at Guadalupe Social Services and Catholic Charities. She also regularly contributes articles to Global Sisters Report and the National Catholic Reporter.
