On Sunday, October 13, 1985, Bishop Benedict Franzetta, Auxiliary Bishop of Youngstown, led a procession during the dedication of the newly developed Resurrection Cemetery in Austintown, accompanied by Father John Demarinis (wearing sunglasses), diocesan treasurer and pastor of St. Anthony of Padua Church in Youngstown; Oblate Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Humility of Mary Sisters and Ursuline Sisters of Youngstown.

The 300-acre site for the burial ground was purchased by the Diocese of Youngstown in 1948. Resurrection became the fourth diocesan cemetery, in addition to Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown, Calvary Cemetery in Massillon and All Souls Cemetery in Cortland. Many other parish-affiliated burial grounds also serve Catholics in the diocese.

Bishop James Malone reminded diocesan Catholics in a letter about Resurrection Cemetery, “All these Catholic cemeteries … carry forward our long tradition of loving care for our dead. May God grant eternal life and blessedness to all we lay to rest in these hallowed grounds.”
