Supporting cancer caregivers In her 15 years of leading a cancer caregiver support group, Joyce Aleshire has seen hundreds

Whether it’s providing information, assisting with basic needs or offering educational programs, helping people rise from poverty into their own self-sufficiency has always been at the heart of Catholic Charities of Ashtabula County.


On Saint Patrick’s feast day, Bishop David Bonnar celebrated a Mass of Blessing at the restored St. Patrick Church. A reception for parishioners, family and friends followed Mass.

At the Columbiana and Mahoning listening session for the Synod on Synodality, priorities such as encouraging vocations, unburdening the priests and secular activities on Sundays rose to the top.

Music opened the first annual diocesan-wide Las Posadas observance held at St. Dominic Parish in Youngstown on Saturday, December 16. Approximately 100 people, from toddlers to seniors, attended the festivities.

In June 1898, Bishop Ignatius Horstmann, Bishop of Cleveland, authorized the establishment of St. Anthony Church to serve the Italian-speaking immigrants in Youngstown.

In February, 1923, a small group of Catholics gathered in a storeroom on the corner of Market Street and Ravenwood Avenue for the first Mass of St. Dominic Parish in Youngstown, Mahoning County.
