Catholic Schools Week 1990

Cheerleaders at St. Patrick School in Kent show their S-P-I-R-I-T at an all-school pep rally marking Catholic Schools Week in January 1990. This special week has been observed nationally and locally since 1974 and will be observed from January 26 to February 1, 2025. Schools and parishes typically observe the week with Masses, assemblies, events and other activities for students, families, parishioners and community members as we emphasize and celebrate the many gifts of Catholic schools.

St. Patrick Parish in Kent has a history stretching back to the middle of the 19th century.  They built their first church building in 1867. In 1877, they bought the land on which to build a school, and in 1881, they opened it. Since that time, newer and larger buildings and multiple additions have housed the educational and spiritual growth of generations of children, overseen for a century by Sisters of the Humility of Mary, and since then by dedicated lay leadership. Photo by John Burnell, for the Catholic Exponent, 1990.
