It is a long-standing Catholic tradition to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary during the month of May, and we—along with those from all faith backgrounds—also strive to honor our mothers and mother figures on Mother’s Day. Here are some resources to help support your prayer life this month:
Mary, Mother of Jesus, by Tomie dePaola: This beautifully illustrated children’s book is sure to touch the heart of every child, drawing on the Bible, Church tradition and pious legend to present the woman chosen by God to bring the Savior into the world.Â
Blessed Art Thou: Mother, Lady, Mystic, Queen, by Michael O’Neill McGrath: Featuring vibrant contemporary art of the Virgin Mary by renowned artist, painter and author Michael O’Neill McÂGrath, OSFS, this book also includes prayers written by Father Richard Fragomeni.Â
A Catholic Mom’s Prayer Companion, by Lisa M. Hendey: Are you a Catholic mom who prays for the wisdom and patience to get through each day? Do you pray for your children, husband, family and friends, and sometimes even yourself? The Catholic Mom’s Prayer Companion is a daily resource to make the most of those few, precious minutes you have to pause and reflect.
To borrow these or other resources, the library and Office of Faith Formation and Lay Ecclesial Ministry are open for in-person visits and consultations 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. You may also visit the library online here. Once you make your selections, you can email the request to mhynes@youngstowndiocese.org.
